Inovus CEO supports launch of LCR Ventures with Metro Mayor

Dr Elliot Street, Inovus Medical CEO and NHS Clinical Entrepreneur, met with Metro Mayor of Liverpool, Steve Rotherham, last week as he announced his vision for an “innovation powerhouse” at the launch of ‘Liverpool City Region Ventures’ which took place at Wirral’s Arrowe Park hospital.

The launch of the initiative is part of a wider strategy to bolster the city region’s investment in research and development (R&D).

Dr Elliot Street, who co-founded Inovus Medical – an internationally acclaimed surgical simulation company based in St Helens – with his business partner Jordan Van Flute, was enthused by the Metro Mayor’s commitment to supporting innovation in the Merseyside area.

The Mayor who took part in a hands-on demonstration and thorough presentation of LapAR platform during his day at Arrowe Park hospital was extremely excited to see the latest high fidelity augmented reality platform created by the R&D team at Inovus Medical. The Mayor outlined how science and medical innovation can put the city region “firmly back on the map” and that the region now needs to capitalise on its “world class advantages” in the health sector.

The LapAR simulator and software platform allows surgeons to practise a range of procedures across the specialities of general surgery and gynaecology and is revolutionising surgical training both nationally and around the globe.

Dr Elliot Street commented: “I know from my experience as a clinician with an innovative idea just how important early-stage support is in turning that idea into a commercially viable reality.

The next step is creating a strong team to develop these innovative ideas. We are extremely lucky here in St Helens we are surrounded by a wealth of talent and the company’s business model includes a focus on recruiting local people into entry-level roles and providing the necessary training to progress into more senior roles.

I can definitely see there being many more businesses like Inovus across the Region thanks to this new funding. It’s a very exciting time for innovation and the region.”
