East Midlands General Surgeons adopt LapAR

Inovus Medical – the global healthcare simulation company – today announced further regional adoption of LapAR. The very latest in high fidelity surgical simulation will form a pivotal part of the East Midlands Deanery General Surgery training programme.

The Deanery, which provides surgical training across the East Midlands region has selected the Royal Derby Hospital’s Medical Education centre as the hub from which this training programme will be led.

The department at the Medical Education Centre provides clinical leadership for Postgraduate and Undergraduate Medical Education across the Health Education East Midlands region. The department will host regular in person training session using LapAR. The majority of the training and curriculum will then be delivered remotely with each Surgical trainee receiving a take home LapAR simulator. The trainees will work towards competency in the LapPass curriculum which is integrated with LapAR. They will also work through a curriculum of high fidelity, full procedure simulations including appendicectomies and laparoscopic cholecystectomies with their performance and skills progression being tracked and remote feedback being provided by senior surgeons and regional faculty.

‘We are proud to be one of the leading regions in the country who have committed to this development of Core Surgical Training. Together with providing each of our trainees with their own LapAR training box, we are able to set a virtual training curriculum that trainees can complete in their own time. Our aim is to ensure all trainees complete their LapPass qualification which will help them become safe surgeons and accelerate through the new competency based surgical curriculum.’ Commented Paul Leeder, Director of Education ALSGBI and Consultant Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital.

“Inovus has a long-standing relationship with the Clinical Educational Leads within the East Midlands region and we are extremely proud to add a full suite of high-fidelity take home simulators and the LapAR connected surgical training platform to their training armamentarium. It’s fantastic that with LapAR, connected surgical training has become more accessible than ever before, allowing many more surgical trainees to benefit from the latest in healthcare simulation through an easy to access distance learning tool.” commented Dr Elliot Street CEO Inovus Medical.
