Inovus Medical and Liverpool City Region welcome first cohort into new skills training programme, LCR Ignite
26 February, 2025 – Inovus Medical and Liverpool City Region have today welcomed the first cohort to LCR Ignite, an exciting new skills programme designed for 16- to 18- year-olds immersing them in the cutting-edge world of Life Sciences within the Liverpool City Region (LCR) Innovation Zone, part of the Government’s National Investment Programme.
Despite being home to some of the world’s most innovative Health and Life Sciences companies, the LCR is dealing with a shortage of skilled workers who have the knowledge needed to drive these businesses forward and continue to push the boundaries of medicine.
Young people in the LCR could help to solve the Life Sciences skills gap but often don’t know that these career paths exist. They also often haven’t developed the required skills as part of their formal academic education.
LCR Ignite provides a solution: a dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking programme led by Inovus Medical that will help to create the Life Sciences stars of the future.
The first cohort of students enters the programme today and will be embedded within Inovus Medical for four months, participating in an intensive two-hour workshop each week.
During these hands-on sessions, students will spend time with the Inovus Medical team, learn more about the wide-ranging career opportunities available within Life Sciences, and develop essential employability skills like teamwork, leadership, critical thinking, communication, creativity, and problem solving.
Bridging the gap between education and employment, LCR Ignite has been engineered to meet the needs of students, add tangible value, and open doors to one of the world’s most exciting emerging industries.

Dr Elliot Street, Co-Founder and CEO at Inovus Medical, said: “I’m proud to welcome the first of many cohorts to LCR Ignite. Not only will this programme help solve the skills gap in the LCR by equipping young people with employable skills, but it will also introduce them to a dynamic industry that has the potential to really thrive in our region. The opportunities available in Life Sciences are incredibly diverse and I’m honoured that Inovus can play a role in developing the industry leaders of tomorrow through practical, hands-on sessions and team mentorship.”
