Course description:

Master the essentials of laparoscopic surgery in this hands-on, immersive 1-day course designed for OBGYN trainees and professionals.

Kick off with engaging pre-course e-learning modules (5-minute videos) covering key principles, equipment, and theatre considerations to prepare you for practical success.


On the day:

Module 1: 
 

Build a strong foundation with basic laparoscopic skills, including suturing and EMIGS task-based metric tracking.


Module 2: 
 

Elevate your procedural skills with focused training on pelvic sidewall dissection and salpingostomy, featuring live practice, video reviews, and expert-led masterclasses.


Module 3: 
 

Advance to salpingectomy procedures using cutting-edge augmented reality simulators with performance tracking and video analysis.

Refine your skills through continuous reflection, metrics-based improvement, and expert facilitation. By the end, you’ll gain confidence in laparoscopic techniques and core gynaecological procedures, preparing you for real-world surgical challenges and make strides towards EMIGS sign off.

 

Learning outcomes

  • To understand the principles of minimally-invasive surgery
  • To understand the benefits, limitations and ergonomic considerations of laparoscopic surgery
  • To understand the operation-specific considerations of a laparoscopic procedure (including the wider theatre team, set up)
  • To understand the basic principles of laparoscopic access (Hasson and Visi-port)
  • To practice and demonstrate basic laparoscopic skills including: object manipulation, sharp dissection of a disk and ligation
  • To practice and demonstrate laparoscopic suturing techniques
  • Demonstrate laparoscopic suturing in the closure of a salpingostomy
  • To understand the principles and evidence-based practice of core laparoscopic gynaecological procedures (salpingostomy and salpingectomy)
  • To practice and demonstrate salpingostomy on an augmented reality model
  • To practice and demonstrate salpingectomy on an augmented reality model
  • To reflect and improve on performance using video-recording review and analysis of operative performance metrics.
