Thames Valley Region adopts Inovus Laparoscopic simulators to deliver Deanery wide surgical training

Health Education Thames Valley (HETV – formerly the Oxford Deanery) covers the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire and provides first class experience in a wide range of surgical specialties promoting a cohesive approach to surgical training across the region.

The region has historically been at the forefront of delivering quality postgraduate surgical education and has continued to show it’s commitment to improving surgical training with its recent development of a standardised, region wide laparoscopic training programme. With a large number of Inovus simulators already in use across the region, the training programme directors turned to Inovus as the delivery partner for their forward-thinking training programme.

As part of the programme pilot the training leads purchased multiple Pyxus Pro Move laparoscopic simulators, installing them in the simulation centres across the region to ensure standardisation for all trainees. The project has also adopted the LapPass® skills bases as part of the curriculum.

“Inovus Medical is a UK company that has been producing high quality simulation equipment for several years. Having purchased a laparoscopic simulator for our department nearly 5 years ago, Inovus was the obvious choice to equip the Oxford Deanery with laparoscopic simulators for our project where trainees and surgeons have access to simulators in each Trust in our region 24/7.

The simulators are of high quality and provide realistic images, haptic feedback and ease of use. The design is robust and can withstand the rigors of regular use by many trainees. This has facilitated the first simulation project in a UK Deanery where trainee performance and progress can be measured and monitored in a structured manner.

Additionally, the personalised service and after sales care we receive from the Inovus team has been exceptional”. Commented Mr Mike Silva, Training Programme Director General Surgery, Thames Valley Deanery.

“We are really excited that the Thames Valley Region have decided to adopt our simulators for delivery of their new surgical training programme. This programme represents the future for surgical training with objective measurement of simulated competency in a safe and standardised environment. We are confident this pilot will act as a forerunner for wider scale programmes across the country and we are pleased to be able to service these wider demands with our dedicated team who provide UK wide support to our customers.” Said Elliot Street, CEO Inovus Medical
